PRIVACY POLICY

OWNERSHIP

The web site at http://www.harpercollinsebooks.co.uk (the “Site”) is owned by HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. ("HarperCollins"). HarperCollins has created this Site to offer you a rich and diverse list of e-book titles published by its e-book imprint, PerfectBound, as well as for your personal enjoyment, entertainment and education. HarperCollins e-books is the UK retail presence for HarperCollins e-books. If you reside outside the United Kingdom, please visit the HarperCollins e-books retail store in your market:

HarperCollins has implemented the following Privacy Policy for the Site, which describes how we collect, use and share personally identifiable information ("PII") we obtain from and about individuals located in the United Kindgom.

COOKIES

Cookies are small bits of information that the operators of Internet sites place on the hard drive of your computer. Cookies remember information about your activities on the site and enable the operator of the site to make your visits more enjoyable.

At this time, HarperCollins does not employ any cookies on the Site. You can always program your computer to warn you each time a cookie is being sent or to refuse cookies completely.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

When HarperCollins collects PII from you, we will make sure you are informed about who is collecting the information, how and why the information is being collected and the types of uses we will make of the information. HarperCollins will always ask for your consent to to hold your PII . . Once your PII is held on the database we are obligated under the law to hold accurate information, and to let you know what we’re keeping about you if you want to know.

We will keep a record of your PII (This also applies to people who visit our web site who are under the age of 18). If you subscribe to our newsletter or to receive other materials, your PII will not be passed on to third parties, and we will always give you the opportunity to cancel such subscriptions in the future. From time to time, we may also use your PII to contact you for market research or to provide you with promotional materials; however, we will always give you the opportunity to opt out of receiving such materials. If you order an e-book, any credit card information you provide us will be disclosed solely to the third party agent retained to process such payments. This information will not be used for any purpose other than collecting such payments. HarperCollins will not sell, rent or lease your PII to others, unless we have your permission or are required by law.

You can find out about the information we hold on you be e-mailing us at perfectbound@harpercollins.com. The law gives us up to forty days from receipt of your e-mail to respond to your request. We will endeavour to send the information you require within 14 days.

If you do not want to receive e-mails from us you can stop them by simply returning it to us with the word UNSUBSCRIBE clearly marked in the Subject Heading. We will not send any direct mailings or pass information on to third parties for anybody who indicates that they are under the age of 18, without prior permission from parents or guardians. Details of all those under 18 will remain on our private database.

While we do not currently use cookies, you can check the cookies in your web browser to ensure that the information record is correct.

If you are using Internet Explorer 4.0:

  1. Choose view, then
  2. Internet Options
  3. Click the Advanced Type
  4. Scroll down to the yellow exclamation icon under Security and choose one of the three options to regulate your use of cookies. In Internet Explorer 3.0, you can View, Options, Advanced and click on the button that says Warn before Accepting "Cookies."

If you’re using Netscape Communicator 4.0:
On your task bar, click:

  1. View, then
  2. Internet Options
  3. Under the tab General (the default tab) click
  4. Setting then
  5. View Files.

If you’re using Internet Explorer 3.0:
On your Task Bar, click:

  1. View, then
  2. Options, then
  3. Advanced, then
  4. View Files.

If you’re using Netscape Communicator 5.0:
Netscape bundles all cookies into one file on your hard drive. You’ll need to find the file, which it calls Cookie.txt. on Windows Machines.

Just click on a cookie to open it. You’ll see a short string of text and numbers. The numbers are your identification card, which can only be seen by the server that gave you the cookie.
